Preparing specs for any designer you hire…
Monday, October 30th, 2006What is “specs“?
Specs - it’s a specification for site building/design. Every design needs its specs, even if we’re speaking about just banners, galleries or TGP/MGP sites, which seem to be almost the same on the part of design. Therefore there are a lot of differences in the layout, thumbs’ sizes, texts, placement of top lists and other stuff.
Why do you think some of TGP sites, for example, gain 300k of traffic, and some of them are so far from gaining at list 10k of unique visits per day???
That’s happens because of the techniques. Experience webmasters have a clear notion of what’s attractive for the surfers and what is not. These webmasters think of each detail of their site, about the general strategy and tactics to achieve their high goals and to gain more traffic. The same with galleries, because in order to increase the gallery’s CTR (Click Through Ratio) designers should know how to create convertible designs. It is achieved through designers’ own experience and due to the client’s willingness to work close with them…
Thanks to this professional approach designers have picky clients, who point at this and that, making them re-design this or that part, demanding new sketches and total satisfaction. Through this close cooperation masterpieces of design are born. Though sometimes clients go overboard, being too picky, and when it comes to the launch of their new site they postpone it…
But anyway it’s far more better to work with the clients, who know exactly what they want and can provide you an outline for the project, some kind of detailed plan… By the way, one of the means to show designer the layout you want is to make a wireframe of the site… For example in Microsoft Word, using simple frames:
The site itself Wireframe
As you can see specification is an important part of design process and every webmaster, who wants to achieve something, needs to work on it in order to have a site, distinguishing from other sites… New ideas should always be worked on and new decisions should be taken… Maybe it’s that 1% of genius to 99% of work, which will bring you to the top.
Think about it and work thoroughly on your sites’ specs. Your webmaster’s experience will influence design greatly.
