Preparing specs for any designer you hire…

What is “specs“?

Specs - it’s a specification for site building/design. Every design needs its specs, even if we’re speaking about just banners, galleries or TGP/MGP sites, which seem to be almost the same on the part of design. Therefore there are a lot of differences in the layout, thumbs’ sizes, texts, placement of top lists and other stuff.

Why do you think some of TGP sites, for example, gain 300k of traffic, and some of them are so far from gaining at list 10k of unique visits per day???

That’s happens because of the techniques. Experience webmasters have a clear notion of what’s attractive for the surfers and what is not. These webmasters think of each detail of their site, about the general strategy and tactics to achieve their high goals and to gain more traffic. The same with galleries, because in order to increase the gallery’s CTR (Click Through Ratio) designers should know how to create convertible designs. It is achieved through designers’ own experience and due to the client’s willingness to work close with them…

Thanks to this professional approach designers have picky clients, who point at this and that, making them re-design this or that part, demanding new sketches and total satisfaction. Through this close cooperation masterpieces of design are born. Though sometimes clients go overboard, being too picky, and when it comes to the launch of their new site they postpone it…

But anyway it’s far more better to work with the clients, who know exactly what they want and can provide you an outline for the project, some kind of detailed plan… By the way, one of the means to show designer the layout you want is to make a wireframe of the site… For example in Microsoft Word, using simple frames:

The site itself            Wireframe

Realbareback Wireframe

As you can see specification is an important part of design process and every webmaster, who wants to achieve something, needs to work on it in order to have a site, distinguishing from other sites… New ideas should always be worked on and new decisions should be taken… Maybe it’s that 1% of genius to 99% of work, which will bring you to the top.

Think about it and work thoroughly on your sites’ specs. Your webmaster’s experience will influence design greatly.

New kind of challenge for designers…

Friday, October 27th, 2006

Several months ago we worked on the project, which seemed a bit strange at first sight… Though on the part of design it resumed TGP site… Almost the same elements it has - nice header, menu bar, frames….

And here’s what we did:

Sexyclipsorg

The client was pleased with our design and we almost forgot about this project, but soon after a lot of webmasters pointed to this work in our folio. They liked it a lot.

And not so long ago another webmaster asked us to create him a new design for his sexyclips.in domain… And he wanted us to make something similar to these 2 sites:

Sexyclipsorg Sexyclipsto

And here’s what our designers have come up with:

Sexyclipsin

This site actually is more complex then the 2 examples we had… A lot of small elements were designed for it and in the process of creation there were 3 versions of it.

Not an easy challenge I would say. Therefore we still design this kind of sites for the price of usual TGP site.

And an interesting tendency I’ve noticed - sexyclips.in, sexyclips.to, sexyclips.org domains are busy and already 2 of them have our design… Maybe the others will come to us for the brand new look…. I hope so.

And as usual - comments on sexyclips.in new design are welcomed.

Designers and Creativity

Thursday, October 26th, 2006

Have you ever thought about this? What is creativity?

If you check Wikipedia, it gives the following definition of this notion:

Creativity (or creativeness) is a mental process involving the generation of new ideas or concepts, or new associations between existing ideas or concepts. An alternative, more everyday conception of creativity is that it is simply the act of making something new.

An excellent designer , even the one who has gained experience in creating certain sites, can be not creative. It can be true, that his designs are great, but with the course of time one can notice, that his works look similar and the certain style can be traced in the details of his works. In adult site designs this sometimes really strikes the eye.

And this is the point of creativity. Creativity in design is an ability of designer to look beyond his own borders, to eliminate the distinction between his habits in creating designs and skills, which allow him or her to create far more intelligent and outstanding designs.

The idea is that every designer comes to this border of his own creativity and the question is if he is able to cross this line or will resume good designer without a hint at creativity….

What do you think about this?
